Tutorial 1

Had my first tutorial with William yesterday. He seemed to like my idea, but he thought I was saying eye in the sky, not Iron Sky. But it was quite lucky really as he started talking about George Orwell 'Big Brother is Watching' sort of a thing. Which lead me to thinking of using other media to link to politics. William wants me to use my own words in my work, rather than making it about other people. I'm a bit useless at stuff like that though. So I'm thinking for my development I could use quotes relevant to my theme and eventually try and think of my own. William also told me to by two sketchbooks. An A3 one and A5 one. I bought one slightly smaller than A5 in the end though so it will fit in my handbag. Its just for rough sketches/ideas. So I need to have it handy all the time really. I think I'll end up using to write quotes/words in and maybe try out colour schemes. Maybe even little sketches of how I want collages to look. I want to keep my project abstract so there's not point me doing proper sketches in it.
I also bought the film 'Iron Sky' and looked for 'The Great Dictator'. Its not necessary that I watch them. But I could get some visual ideas from them and some quotes. It intrigues me that they are both about Nazi's. This has slightly shifted my project. As William said I could make it more about power: capitalism. The elite against the poor. Which is a reflection of the society we live in, and the power of the government and the rich.
Tomorrow I'm going to visit the library after my lecture and try and get some books about society/politics. Nothing too intense. Just something I can get some useful words from. I'm also going to look for some relevant artist books.
